I have used all four of the vets listed. The first three are all fairly standard and can do basic checkups, but I wouldn’t recommend them for any serious illness or surgeries.

However, I cannot praise Dr Odendaal at Village Veterinary Clinic enough. He is beyond amazing and was previously an exotics vet at Ondersterpoort, so he knows more than imaginable about rats, treatments and is always up to date on new medications and research on them.

Village Veterinary Clinic itself also has top of the line equipment and staff as an added bonus.

We were overwhelmed with the kindness, professionalism and depth of knowledge that Village Veterinary Clinic displayed when we had to unfortunately put one of our baby rats down as he deteriorated so rapidly. Dr Odendaal gave us the space and respect we needed when coming to such a hard decision. We even received a sympathy card in the mail a week later from everyone there which I found very touching. How many other vets bother with such things?

Our other baby survived the bug and was treated very well with everyone in the practice displaying in depth knowledge of rat care and giving us helpful tips like mixing the antibiotics with yoghurt to get little Sage to eat it. A life saver. I am awed by their kindness.
